In response to the fatal shooting of four Tangkhul Naga civilians in Manipur’s border district of Kamjong, the apex Tangkhul Naga body, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), has enforced a mandatory 24-hour emergency total shutdown across its territorial jurisdiction. Running from 7:00 AM on Friday, September 25, through 7:00 AM on Saturday, September 26, the strike was convened following an urgent meeting to protest the violence that transpired near Pilong village, situated roughly 35 kilometers from the Kamjong district headquarters near the international border with Myanmar. The victims of the afternoon attack were identified by the TNL as Phami Jajo and Vareishim Jajo of Kangpat Khullen, Ningthem Kashak of Zingsui, and Betterson Jajo of Kangpat Khunou. Representatives of the TNL publicly attributed the targeted killings to cadres belonging to the Kuki National Army-Burma (KNA-B) operating alongside allied “narco-terrorist” factions, asserting that the unarmed civilians were ambushed along the border corridor. Demanding strict adherence to the jurisdiction-wide shutdown, the TNL maintained necessary humanitarian exceptions, permitting uninterrupted operation for essential services including medical facilities, electrical power grid maintenance, emergency fire services, and official funeral or condolence processions.
