Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is spearheading the future of sustainable mobility by embracing biofuel technologies as a critical innovation in the quest for carbon neutrality. Marking World Biofuel Day 2024, TKM reinforced its commitment to pioneering Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) and Flex Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV-SHEV) in India, aligning with Toyota’s global target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
As India grapples with escalating crude oil imports, TKM is focusing on ethanol as a viable alternative. Ethanol blending reached 15.90% in June 2024, with the goal of 20% by 2025. This innovation promises not only to reduce India’s carbon footprint but also to yield significant economic benefits, including forex savings of over ₹30,000 crores.
In Aizawl, TKM’s biofuel advancements are set to transform the local market. By promoting ethanol production, the region could see enhanced economic opportunities, particularly in agriculture, fostering a more resilient and sustainable economy in Mizoram.Vikram Gulati, TKM’s Executive Vice President, highlighted that biofuels are at the forefront of technological innovation, driving India towards a future where clean energy and economic growth go hand in hand.
