Security forces arrested two active members of the banned KCP (MFL) group from Manipur’s Imphal West district in an operation aimed at curbing extortion activities and strengthening security in the region. Officials said the arrests were carried out on the basis of specific intelligence inputs and were part of an ongoing campaign to dismantle networks of proscribed organisations operating in the state.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangjam Goutam Singh (19) and Diamond Chingshubam (24), both residents of Khabi Mamang Leikai in Imphal West. According to officials, the security forces conducted coordinated early-morning raids at their respective residences. The operation was carefully planned to prevent any escape attempts and to ensure the safety of both security personnel and civilians present in the area. Family members of the accused were present during the searches, and the operation was completed without any reported confrontation.
Authorities stated that both individuals were suspected to be actively involved in extortion activities in the district. Their alleged involvement had drawn the attention of law enforcement agencies, which began monitoring their movements before launching the arrest operation. Officials said the timely action helped prevent the suspects from evading capture or destroying potential evidence linked to their activities.
During the operation, security forces seized a Royal Enfield Meteor motorcycle bearing registration number MN04G-2108 from the possession of the accused. In addition to the motorcycle, two mobile phones and an Aadhaar card were also recovered. Investigators believe that the mobile phones may contain important digital evidence related to communication with other members of the banned organisation. Forensic examination of these devices is expected to help investigators trace contacts, identify additional suspects, and understand the wider network linked to the alleged extortion activities.
Both accused are currently in the custody of security forces as part of the initial stage of the investigation. Authorities said interrogation is underway and may provide further details regarding the structure, functioning, and activities of the KCP (MFL) group in Imphal West. Investigators are also examining the seized materials to determine whether the suspects were acting independently or as part of a larger organised network operating in the district.
