On February 21, the Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) mourned the death of Vungzagin Valte, who passed away in New Delhi after suffering from a prolonged illness stemming from severe injuries sustained during a brutal attack on May 4, 2023. Valte, born in Mualnuam village, served three terms as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the 56–Thanlon Assembly Constituency from 2012 to 2026 and was a Cabinet Minister from 2020 to 2022. He was dedicated to public service, working diligently for the welfare of his community, initially serving as a banker with the State Bank of India before entering politics.
Valte was particularly noted for his support during a challenging chapter in Thadou history in 2017 when he attended TSA’s 60th Foundation Day as Guest of Honour, a gesture that solidified his bond with the community. His contributions to the Thadou cause and active participation in community events exemplified his commitment and friendship. Although a leader from the Paite tribe within the Zomi community, he was recognized for his humility and ability to connect with people across different tribal and constituency backgrounds.
In honor of his legacy defined by simplicity, courage, and inclusive leadership, TSA expressed prayers for his eternal peace and strength for his grieving family, hoping that his life and contributions will inspire future generations.
