A magnitude 5.2 earthquake struck Manipur early Tuesday morning, sending tremors across parts of the Northeast, including Guwahati and nearby regions.
According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake occurred at around 5:59 am IST on April 21, with its epicentre located in Kamjong district.
The NCS reported: “EQ of M: 5.2, On: 21/04/2026 05:59:33 IST, Lat: 24.703 N, Long: 94.415 E, Depth: 62 Km, Location: Kamjong, Manipur.”
The quake originated at a depth of approximately 62 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface, classifying it as a moderately deep (mid-depth) seismic event. Tremors were strong enough to wake many residents from their sleep, particularly in Guwahati and surrounding areas.
Despite the intensity of the tremors, there were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties at the time of reporting. However, authorities remain on alert and are closely monitoring the situation
