Assam implements Nijut Moina scheme to tackle child marriage

Mukha Mantri Nijut Moina scheme for girls to support pursuing higher education, a fix monthly payment is to be transferred. The only condition of the scheme is to remain unmarried.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The rules are simple. Each beneficiary must attend regular classes, maintain good academic performance, and demonstrate discipline. The scheme does not apply to the daughters of Ministers, MPs, and MLAs. A beneficiary cannot marry until she completes her graduation.”

The Assam CM also said that the scheme is mainly implemented in an aim to eradicate child marriage in the state.

He said, “Nijut Moina is an endeavour to intensify the battle against child marriage by reducing the economic burden on the parents or guardians of the girls seeking higher education.”
