In a major push toward heritage conservation and historical awareness, the Assam Rifles has launched a collaborative initiative at the historic Khongjom War Memorial in Manipur’s Kakching district. The campaign aims to preserve the cultural legacy of the state while inspiring the younger generation with stories of past heroism.
The initiative kicked off with a comprehensive joint assessment by the Assam Rifles and the local district administration. This review targeted key restoration needs, focusing on long-term upkeep and enhancing the overall appearance of the landmark. The Khongjom War Memorial stands as a solemn reminder of the Battle of Khongjom fought in 1891, a defining moment of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism in Manipur’s history.
As part of the drive, a historical awareness campaign successfully engaged over 110 local students. The participants included 64 NCC cadets, alongside students from Slopeland Higher Secondary School and the Assam Rifles Public School in Kakching. Through educational sessions, the youth were taught the profound significance of safeguarding their regional history.
Defense officials emphasized that involving the youth in these restoration and educational efforts ensures that the legacy of Manipur’s freedom fighters remains preserved for generations to come. By blending community action with historical education, the initiative has successfully fostered a renewed sense of pride and responsibility among the local youth toward their shared cultural heritage.
