The controversy over the alleged NEET paper leak triggered rival protests by the BJP and Congress in Manipur on Wednesday, with both parties holding separate demonstrations and accusing each other over the issue.
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, along with BJP MLAs and senior party leaders, participated in a sit-in protest at Thambal Shanglen in Nityapat Chuthek. Addressing party workers, Singh accused the Congress of creating political disruption instead of focusing on constructive discussions. He said students need solutions, certainty and responsible leadership, while asserting that democratic institutions should not be weakened through misinformation or unnecessary disruptions.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) organised a protest in Imphal against the detention of senior Congress leaders during demonstrations in New Delhi over the NEET issue. The party demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, alleging that repeated examination irregularities and paper leaks had affected the future of thousands of students.
Following the protest march, an MPCC delegation submitted a memorandum to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, seeking action on the examination controversy. The Congress also demanded a discussion in Parliament, withdrawal of cases against protesting students and urgent steps to address the situation in Manipur. The demonstrations highlighted the growing political debate surrounding examination transparency, accountability and student concerns across the country.
