Due to a rabies outbreak in Manipur, Mizoram has prohibited the importation of dogs

The district administration of Saitual, Mizoram, prohibited the importation of dogs on April 7 in response to allegations of a rabies outbreak in the Churachandpur district of Manipur. The district and neighboring Manipur are adjacent. According to a directive by Saitual District Magistrate (DM) Lalngura Tlau, all dog owners must vaccinate their pets against rabies and keep their pets off the streets. According to the report, a rabies outbreak in the nearby district of Churachandpur prompted the Saitual district administration to enforce specific regulations and guidelines in accordance with current national legislation in order to protect the public.

According to the directive, it is illegal to bring dogs into the district from other states or nations. If someone notices a sick or dead dog, they should notify the closest veterinary and animal husbandry office right away. According to the decree, a dog’s owner faces a maximum fine of Rs 5,000 or a six-month jail sentence if the dog bites someone. Beginning on Monday, the order will be in force for two months.
