Kuki People’s Alliance MLA Kimneo Hangshing Haokip has urged the Manipur government to ensure the uninterrupted supply of food, essential commodities, life-saving medicines, and fuel across all parts of the state, particularly highlighting the severe shortages in Kangpokpi district. Haokip, along with Independent MLA Haokholet Kipgen, made a historic appearance in the Manipur Assembly on Wednesday, becoming the first Kuki legislators to attend a session in person since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. While praising the state government under Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh for its efforts toward restoring normalcy, Haokip drew attention to critical ground realities, noting that her constituency, Saikul, had been cut off from essential medical and food supplies for over three-and-a-half months due to blockades by various organizations. She further highlighted that insecurity over the past three years has prevented Kuki-Zo students from traveling to take competitive exams, requesting the establishment of central examination centers at the Kangpokpi district headquarters. Drawing from a recent visit to internally displaced persons (IDP) centers in Churachandpur, she criticized the lack of basic amenities, unhygienic conditions, crowding, insufficient financial relief for destroyed homes, and inadequate monetary stipends. Meanwhile, the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex tribal body, strongly condemned the decision of the two MLAs to attend the session in Imphal, stating that their participation disregarded the collective sentiments and political aspirations of the Kuki-Zo community as it continues to pursue its demand for a separate administration.
