John Abraham Urges Collective Efforts to Build a Drug-Free Society

Actor John Abraham has called for stronger action against the root causes of drug trafficking, stating that the drug menace can only be effectively addressed by dismantling the alleged political nexus behind the trade. Speaking at an anti-drug awareness programme organised by the Social Welfare Department in Shillong, the actor said that current efforts largely focus on controlling the consequences rather than eliminating the source of the problem.

Responding to questions about the growing drug issue in Meghalaya, Abraham remarked that authorities are currently engaged in “firefighting,” which, while necessary, cannot provide a lasting solution. He stressed that meaningful progress would require action against influential individuals allegedly involved in the drug trade, adding that without addressing these underlying networks, the problem would continue to persist.

Reaffirming his commitment to a drug-free society, Abraham said he strongly believes in a nation free from substance abuse and urged young people to reject drugs and make healthy, responsible choices. He encouraged citizens, communities and authorities to work together in creating a safer environment for future generations.

The awareness programme highlighted the importance of public participation in combating drug abuse and promoting preventive measures. John Abraham’s message underscored the need for sustained awareness, stronger enforcement and collective action to tackle the drug menace while inspiring young people to contribute to building a healthier and drug-free society.
