LDA team joins ADB workshop in Madhya Pradesh

A team from the Loktak Development Authority (LDA), led by Chairman Moirangthem Asnikumar, participated in a workshop marking the 25th anniversary of the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) partnership with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. The workshop, held from September 24-25, also served as the platform for the Tripartite Portfolio Review Meeting (TPRM) and was co-organised by ADB, the Department of Economic Affairs (DEA), Government of India, and the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

The event featured presentations and knowledge-sharing sessions on topics such as climate resilience, renewable energy, water conservation, low-carbon transition, and rural development. The LDA team engaged in discussions surrounding the adverse effects of the Ithai Barrage, part of the Loktak Hydel Project, on Loktak Lake’s ecosystem and the livelihoods of its surrounding communities.

M. Asnikumar Singh highlighted the need for a thorough post-environmental impact assessment and presented updates on the proposed ‘Sustainable Loktak Lake Ecological Restoration, Livelihood and Eco-Tourism Project,’ which is set to receive ADB funding. Singh also appealed to expedite the project’s approval, aiming to transform Loktak Lake into an iconic global wetland site.
