Asian Paints has appointed financial sector veteran Leo Puri as chairman-designate, with his term set to begin on January 23, 2027. Puri has also been appointed to the company’s board for a five-year term extending until September 2031 and will succeed R. Seshasayee as chairman. The leadership transition comes as India’s leading paint maker faces increasing competition from major new entrants and well-funded business groups, including the Aditya Birla Group and JSW Group, which are expanding their presence in the decorative paints market and putting pressure on industry growth and margins. Puri brings extensive experience in India’s financial sector, having held senior positions at JPMorgan Chase, UTI Asset Management and private equity firm Warburg Pincus. His appointment is expected to bring his broad financial and corporate experience to the company as Asian Paints navigates a more competitive market and prepares for its next phase of growth.
