Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at her office in Kartavya Bhawan, New Delhi, on October 29 and sought enhanced financial assistance from the Centre to help the state address its fiscal challenges.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister apprised Sitharaman of the state government’s efforts to maintain fiscal discipline and strengthen financial management. He highlighted that the government has consistently ensured the timely disbursement of salaries and pensions on the first working day of every month.
Khemchand Singh also reviewed the progress of Externally Aided Projects (EAPs) in Manipur and discussed the implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and other ongoing development initiatives.
Emphasising the revenue losses suffered by the state over the past three years, the Chief Minister requested additional financial support from the Centre to help Manipur overcome its current fiscal difficulties. He also sought increased funding under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme.
According to an official statement, Sitharaman responded positively to the proposals and assured the Chief Minister of all possible support from the Central Government to improve the state’s financial position.
As a gesture of goodwill, Khemchand Singh presented the Union Finance Minister with a traditional Lengyan and a painting depicting Radha and Krishna.
