Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari at his official residence in New Delhi to advocate for the urgent acceleration of infrastructure development across the northeastern state, specifically requesting the expedited completion of upgrades on National Highway-37 connecting Imphal to Silchar and National Highway-2 linking Imphal to Dimapur during the ongoing working season to alleviate severe commuter hardships. During the high-level discussions, Singh also emphasized the critical necessity of immediately commencing construction on the strategic Shangshak-Tengnoupal Highway situated along the Manipur-Myanmar border, while formally urging central approval for a proposed elevated highway project in Imphal aimed at easing urban congestion. In response to the state delegation’s representations, Minister Gadkari acknowledged that the Imphal elevated highway proposal remains actively under consideration by the ministry and assured state leaders that all raised infrastructure concerns would be systematically addressed, reaffirming the central government’s commitment to extending comprehensive financial and logistical assistance to upgrade and modernize Manipur’s vital road networks. This high-level meeting builds upon proactive measures initiated earlier in the year by the Manipur Cabinet to successfully resolve complex land compensation disputes that had previously stalled critical transportation projects, including the clearance of specific administrative measures to resume stalled work on National Highway-37 within the Noney district. Furthermore, persistent disputes and bottlenecks along the crucial Imphal-Dimapur route located in the Kangpokpi district were effectively settled through a dedicated state compensation package, while collaborative discussions with local stakeholders have been initiated to resolve pending land acquisition issues along the Imphal-Ukhrul-Jessami Highway. By successfully clearing these administrative and territorial hurdles, the state government has paved the way for uninterrupted construction activity, which is expected to significantly improve regional connectivity, boost cross-border trade, and enhance economic integration for local communities. The collaborative approach between state leadership and the central ministry underscores a shared priority to overcome infrastructural bottlenecks in strategic border states, ensuring that vital transport corridors are completed efficiently and safely for the benefit of all citizens traversing the region.
