Manipur Fire Service Dept to strengthen emergency response with 7 new fire stations

The Manipur Fire Service Department proposed to set up seven new fire stations in a bid to boost its infrastructure and emergency response capabilities in the state.
Fire Services Department Director Laishram Nabachandra told reporters that the proposal of seven new Fire Stations at Porompat, Lilong, Yairipok, Saikul, Litan, Khumbong and Heirok was under process and they are expected to become functional.
The department has also proposed 26 fire stations across the state to improve coverage and reduce response time, he said.
Nabachandra stressed the importance of equipping people with basic firefighting and life-saving skills so that they can respond promptly to emergencies before professional firefighters arrive.
He also said that people have a major role to play in preventing fire incidents from causing widespread destruction or loss of lives. Saying that the Fire Services Department has trained thousands of people in fire and life safety, he added that the department has also been conducting inspection drives at schools, colleges, hotels and hospitals to check whether these establishments have adequate fire safety equipment and arrangements. The department has also been conducting mock drills and awareness programmes on fire safety, he said.
