Legendary Indian boxer MC Mary Kom provided humanitarian aid to internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by the ongoing conflict in Manipur on December 17. She distributed blankets and shared messages of solidarity at Lanboikhongnangkhong in Imphal West, a site of continuous protests led by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) for the resettlement of displaced families by December 31. Mary Kom emphasized the initiative as a meaningful gesture to bring comfort and hope to the affected families.
In a significant move to support children from IDP families, she announced that those interested in boxing would receive free training at her boxing academy, underlining the healing potential of sports. Additionally, she called for collective responsibility to ensure the dignified rehabilitation of displaced families. COCOMI Women’s Wing Convenor RK Tharaksa commended Mary Kom’s support, which provided emotional strength to the community during this distressing time, with the IDP community expressing deep gratitude for her compassion.
