In a significant escalation of anti-insurgency efforts across Manipur, a series of coordinated operations by state and central security forces has resulted in the dismantling of multiple militant facilities. On Thursday, joint teams conducted high-stakes raids across several districts, successfully neutralizing two insurgent camps, destroying three fortified bunkers, and seizing a substantial cache of sophisticated weaponry and explosives.
The primary strike occurred in the Dampi Ridge area, falling under the jurisdiction of the Churachandpur police station. Security personnel infiltrated a suspected militant hideout, uncovering a diverse and dangerous arsenal. The recovery included a modified AK-47, two 9 mm pistols, and several rifles, alongside four “pompis”—locally manufactured improvised weapons frequently used in the region’s ongoing tensions. In addition to the firearms, the team discovered 81 rounds of live ammunition, 1 kg of raw explosive material, bulletproof vests, and communication equipment, suggesting a high level of operational readiness by the insurgents.
Simultaneously, a second wing of the operation targeted the periphery of Loktak Lake in the Bishnupur district. Searching the Upokpi Khunou Mamang Leikai area, forces recovered a .32 pistol, a single-barrel gun, and a high-explosive hand grenade. These strategic recoveries are seen as a vital step in preventing potential skirmishes in the sensitive fringe areas where hill and valley regions meet.
The crackdown extended into the Imphal East district, where security units focused on the Satang Hill range. Under the Sagolmang police station’s jurisdiction, forces located and demolished three tactical bunkers used by armed groups to monitor and control the surrounding terrain. The destruction of these structures is expected to significantly hamper the mobility and defensive capabilities of local militant factions.
Although no arrests were made during the immediate raids, as insurgents likely fled upon the approach of the joint task force, the operation is being hailed as a major success for regional stability. All recovered contraband, weapons, and tactical gear have been handed over to local police stations for forensic analysis and further legal proceedings.
Officials have emphasized that these operations are part of a broader, ongoing strategy of heightened vigilance. As Manipur continues to navigate a delicate security landscape, state and central forces remain committed to clearing illegal arms and dismantling the infrastructure of violence to ensure the safety of the civilian population.
