Eight detained in manipur musician’s death in delhi; union minister says cops to file chargesheet within 9 days

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday informed that the Delhi Police has assured him of filing a chargesheet within eight to nine days in the case relating to the death of Manipuri musician C Vikram Singh in south Delhi on Monday.
In his complaint to the police, Singh’s son, said his father had told him on the way to the hospital that people from a nearby dhaba had attacked him on Sunday night. Some of them had previously threatened Singh after he complained of excessive noise, the complaint said.
Eight persons have been detained by Delhi Police in the case.
The Union Minister said he had spoken to senior Delhi Police officers and was personally monitoring the investigation.
“Police have assured me that the chargesheet will be filed within eight-nine days and that the investigators would leave no stone unturned to build a strong case against the accused,” Rijiju told mediapersons.
A renowned guitarist, Singh (54), who had been living in Kilokari village for several years, died after he was allegedly assaulted by a group of delivery workers and dhaba staff in the early hours of Monday.
The musician’s death has triggered widespread condemnation.
DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Tuesday said tragic demise of musician Chongtham Vikram Singh from Manipur is deeply distressing.
“The safety and dignity of every person from the Northeast is non-negotiable. I urge the Delhi Police to ensure swift action and a thorough investigation, and that those responsible face the strictest consequences under the law,” Scindia said.
“My deepest condolences to Vikram’s family, friends and loved ones,” he added.
In his condolence message, Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely demise of renowned guitarist Shri Chongtham Vikram. His valuable contribution to music and the cultural life of Manipur will always be remembered with deep respect.”
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for strength and solace to help them bear this irreparable loss. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace,” the Chief Minister said.
