Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched an Industrial Autonomy & Engineering Lab at its Sahyadri Park campus in Pune, describing it as India’s first “lights-out” factory lab designed to advance artificial intelligence-led manufacturing. A lights-out factory uses autonomous technologies to operate production processes with minimal human intervention. The new facility features a fully robotic battery pack assembly line and a live, multi-stage production setup that allows manufacturers to prototype, test, validate and scale AI-first production systems while reducing deployment risks. TCS said the lab demonstrates how self-optimising factories can automate workflows by integrating digital twins, robotics, industrial AI, factory control systems and real-time operational intelligence. The facility is designed to help businesses move from digitally enabled operations towards increasingly autonomous manufacturing, while demonstrating the potential of collaboration between humans and AI. According to TCS, the Pune lab will support several industrial applications, including predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, real-time process optimisation, human-machine collaboration and autonomous factory operations. The launch represents a significant step in TCS’s efforts to develop and demonstrate AI-driven industrial solutions, giving manufacturers a practical environment to explore how advanced technologies can improve efficiency, reduce operational risks and enable more autonomous production systems.
