Methamphetamine tablets and heroin were recovered by Assam Rifles in Manipur; one person was arrested

In the Jiribam district of Manipur, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur police and the CRPF, retrieved 50,000 methamphetamine tablets and a significant amount of heroin valued at Rs 76 crore, officials announced in a press release. The operation resulted in the arrest of one person. In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, on July 20, Assam Rifles, Manipur police, and the CRPF conducted an operation that led to the recovery of 50,000 methamphetamine tablets and 616 soap cases of heroin valued at nearly Rs 76 crore that were being transported by boat on the Barak River in the Jiribam district of Manipur.

“The joint team was conducting boat patrolling on the Barak River between Chaudharykhal and Savomphai, on the outskirts of Jiribam and Phezarwal districts, based on specific intelligence. When they discovered a boat, the driver tried to escape after being confronted. The contraband was recovered after the boat was seized during the subsequent pursuit. According to the press release, one person, who lived in Silchar, Assam, was also taken into custody.” With frequent operations to disrupt and dismantle drug networks, Assam Rifles has been leading the region’s anti-drug efforts. “This seizure is one of the largest seizures in recent times and a significant milestone in the effort to combat drug trafficking,” according to the press statement.
