Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Tuesday expressed appreciation to the Naga and Kuki communities for facilitating the smooth movement of public transport along NH-2, the Imphal-Dimapur route. Speaking at the 45th Hawkers’ Day celebration in Imphal, Singh said cooperation between communities was essential for restoring peace, normalcy and safe travel in the state. Public transport between Imphal and Guwahati via Dimapur had briefly been disrupted following violence at Taphou village in Senapati district, but services resumed within hours and continued uninterrupted for the fourth consecutive day. Around 300 passengers, including women and children, travelled in five buses and nine Winger vehicles on Tuesday. Since services resumed, about 900 passengers have travelled from Imphal towards Dimapur and Guwahati, while more than 400 have safely returned to Imphal. The Chief Minister linked the resumption to ongoing peace initiatives and the August 8 joint announcement on ensuring free movement along national highways. Recalling reconciliation efforts in Jiribam, he stressed that dialogue and mutual understanding among communities are crucial for peace and development. Singh also cautioned against vested interests seeking to disrupt reconciliation and urged people across communities to work together to protect Manipur’s peace and integrity, emphasising that safeguarding the state is a collective responsibility.
