Security forces in Manipur apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) during an operation in Imphal East district and recovered eight hand grenades from his possession, a statement from state police force said.
The apprehended cadre has been identified as Ningombam Amuthoi Meitei (30), a resident of Chingnungkok Maning Leikai in Imphal East district.
According to police officials, the operation was carried out at Yourabung Panthoibi Leikai under Lamlai Police Station on Sunday.
The arrested cadre and the hand grenades have been handed over to the concerned authorities for further legal proceedings.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the explosives and examine any possible links to militant activities in the region.
A day earlier, an active cadre of UPPK, one Salam Bijanda Singh alias Deepak alias Major (37) of Arong Nongmaikhong Mayai Leikai in Kakching district, was arrested from Kakwa Liwa Lambi, Maibam Leikai in Imphal West district.
On the same day, an active cadre of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), identified as Thongam Preethyngamba Meitei (26) of Singjamei Makha Khongnang Pheidekpi in Imphal West district, was apprehended from Wangkhei Ayangpalli Road under Porompat police station in Imphal East district.
