The Rangkhung Youth Club (RYC) has raised concern over the sighting of alleged drones operating over the sky of the Rangkhung village of Tamenglong district, during the last few days.
The Youth Club has issued a Notification in this regard and reported that the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were equipped with night-vision technology. The drone activities were seen, daily, by the villagers and it caused concern among residents amid the prevailing sensitive security situation in the area, the notification stated.
The matter requires immediate verification as the activity could pose a potential threat to the security and privacy of the village, the Club further stated. The Youth Club has called upon concerned government departments, local authorities, security agencies and military authorities to clarify whether any authorised operation involving drones is currently being conducted in the region. Any such operation should be immediately acknowledged in order to avoid confusion and further complications. The notification added that youths and volunteers of Rangkhung may launch intensive search operations to identify the source of the drone activity.
The Youth Club also added in its notification that failure by concerned authorities to respond or clarify, the situation could lead to unforeseen consequences arising from retaliatory actions taken by the village volunteers.
