Sports Authority of India (SAI), North East Regional Centre (NERC) organised “Sundays on Cycle” programme in connection with Commonwealth Games edition.
During the event, sportspersons who had won medals at the Commonwealth Games were also felicitated. The cycling rally started from the SAI Complex at Takyel in Imphal west district. The rally proceeded towards Lamsang and it concluded back at the SAI Complex itself.
Nambol Assembly Constituency MLA Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh, Padma Shri Awardee Nameirakpam Kunjarani Devi and Regional Director of SAI, NERC Imphal, C.Dhandapani attended the event.
MLA Th. Basanta Kumar, speaking on the event, said that many talented sportspersons of the State faced hardships and financial difficulties in pursuing their sporting careers. Public support such as initiatives like “Sundays on Cycle,” would help encourage and nurture young athletes while promoting a healthy and drug-free society.
Collective efforts are necessary to build a physically active and disciplined society, the MLA added.
