Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh chaired a high-level security meeting at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Imphal on Thursday evening following the expiration of a 15-day ultimatum issued on August 12 for the surrender of illegal arms. Convened alongside top security and administrative officials—including Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, Chief Secretary Dr. Puneet Kumar Goel, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, DGP Mukesh Singh, and representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Assam Rifles, CRPF, BSF, and the 57th Mountain Division—the meeting strongly condemned a tragic incident along the IT Road in Kangpokpi district, where four innocent civilians were killed. In response, Chief Minister Singh issued strict directives to security forces to track down and prosecute the perpetrators immediately. Furthermore, the administration resolved to take uncompromising action against any individual found possessing illegal weapons regardless of community affiliation, while warning that cadres under the Suspension of Operation (SoO) or peace agreements who carry arms outside designated camps will face severe legal consequences as security measures are intensified across the state.
