Security forces in Manipur have launched a series of coordinated operations to crack down on insurgents and dismantle extortion rackets across the state. Multiple arrests and significant seizures were made on May 9, as part of intensified efforts to restore peace and security. In one major operation, an active cadre of the banned outfit RPF/PLA, identified as Moirangthem Suraj Meetei alias Amujao (31) from Khabam Lamkhai, Imphal East, was apprehended from a rented house in Sekmai Awang Leikai under Sekmai Police Station, Imphal West. A mobile phone, an Aadhaar card, and ₹300 in cash were seized from his possession.
In a separate action under Imphal Police Station, two active members of the UNLF (P)—Kshetrimayum Blish alias Lamyanba (20) of Kwakeithel Akham Leikai and Pebam Jet Singh (26) of Napet Palli Maning Leikai—were arrested near Uripok Khoisnam Leikai. The duo was allegedly involved in extortion activities targeting educational institutions, government officials, and the public. Recovered items included five mobile phones, Aadhaar cards, ₹250 in cash, and a four-wheeler. On May 8, in a special anti-theft drive, police recovered two stolen vehicles, while tinted glasses were removed from 118 vehicles across the state as part of stepped-up security measures. Search operations and area domination exercises continued in sensitive fringe areas of both hill and valley districts. During these operations, security personnel recovered a significant cache of weapons and explosives, including:

6 IEDs
2 hand grenades
171 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition
30 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition
In Tengnoupal district, alert troops intercepted two individuals trying to cross the Indo-Myanmar border near BP 75 in the T. Minou area. Though the suspects managed to escape, they abandoned two gunny bags containing the aforementioned arms and ammunition.
