Security Tightened in Manipur’s Torbung Area After Armed Group Attack

Security has been beefed up in and around the Torbung area where suspected Kuki armed groups launched indiscriminate firing on Tuesday night. Manipur police informed that joint security forces are carrying out intensive combing operations and area domination to ensure the safety of the public.
“DIG concerned and other senior police officers visited the site of the incident and took stock of the prevailing situation. During the extensive combing operations, arms and ammunitions were recovered from Kangvai,” a statement said.

The recovered arms include one Long Range Improvised Pumpi; four Medium Range Improvised Pumpi; one Medium Range Barrel-Blasted Improvised Pumpi; one IED weighing approximately 3 kilograms; one Single Barrel firearm and 17 empty cases of different calibers. “The recovered IED has been safely disposed of by the Bomb Disposal Squad. Security in the area has been tightened and under strict watch. Situation is under control,” the state police said.

Notably, an FIR has been registered for further investigation into the attack.Meanwhile, in a separate operation on Tuesday, security forces arrested an active cadre of the proscribed outfit SOREPA from the Lamding Nashikhong Leikai area under Thoubal Police Station in Thoubal district. The arrested individual has been identified as Khundrakpam Bitanjit Meitei alias Tomcha (31), a resident of Heirok Part-II, Laimayum, Thoubal district. A mobile phone along with a SIM card was seized from his possession during the arrest.
