In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, Manipur Police and central security forces jointly apprehended seven active members of various banned outfits in a series of coordinated raids carried out across multiple districts of the state on April 11.
The arrests were made in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Kangpokpi districts. The detained individuals are linked to outlawed organizations including the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK-Pro), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP-Noyon and PWG factions), and the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL and KYKL-SOREPA).
Among those arrested is a female cadre, identified as Leichombam Pakpi Devi (37) of KYKL(SOREPA), who was picked up from Leimaram. She was allegedly involved in extortion activities and played a role in the recruitment of new members into the outfit.
The other key individuals apprehended include:
Angom Surjit Singh (34) of PREPAK(Pro), arrested from Phayeng Sabal Leikai, Imphal West.
Huidrom Sunder Singh (39) of KCP(Noyon), detained in Checkon, Imphal East. Authorities allege his involvement in transporting arms and extorting funds.
Moirangthem Suranjoy Meitei (31) of KYKL, from Lamlong Bazar, Imphal East.
Mangsidam Wanglen Singh (22) of KCP(PWG), arrested at Lei Ingkhol with nine extortion demand letters in his possession.
Md. Ashadon (22) of KCP(PWG), taken into custody from Urup Awang Leikai.
Hensonpiek Vaiphei (23), caught red-handed while attempting to extort money from a truck driver on National Highway-2 near Kangpokpi.
Police recovered several mobile phones, demand letters, and other personal belongings from the accused. Preliminary interrogation revealed that all the individuals were actively involved in extortion, aiding in arms smuggling, or facilitating recruitment for underground groups.
