Two UNLF(P) operatives arrested with light machine gun in Manipur

Manipur Police said two alleged cadres of the banned militant outfit United National Liberation Front (Pambei faction) were arrested from Lamdeng area in Imphal West district during a security operation, and a light machine gun along with ammunition was recovered from their possession. According to police, the arrests were made on May 20 as part of ongoing counter-insurgency operations being conducted across the state. The arrested persons were identified as Arambam Tomtom (29), a resident of Heibongpokpi Mayai Leikai under Lamsang in Imphal West district, and Heisnam Thomas, a resident of Mayang Imphal Kokchai.

Police said security personnel recovered one InSAS light machine gun, three magazines and 14 live rounds of ammunition during the operation. Officials stated that the seized weapon and ammunition have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the arms and the activities of the arrested individuals. In another operation carried out on Tuesday, security forces arrested an alleged cadre recruiter linked to the banned militant outfit People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (VC faction) from the Mantripukhri area under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district.

The arrested individual was identified as Laishram Surjit Meitei alias Nanao (29), a resident of Moirang Khunou Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district. Police said he was currently staying at Matai Mayai Leikai in Imphal East district at the time of his arrest. Security officials said one mobile phone was seized from his possession during the operation. Police said the arrests were part of intensified security measures and coordinated counter-insurgency operations being conducted in different parts of Manipur to prevent militant activities and maintain law and order in the state.
