US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in Imphal on Friday and visited two of Manipur’s prominent landmarks — the historic Kangla Fort and Khwairamband Ema Keithel, the iconic women-run market in the heart of the state capital.
Gor is scheduled to meet Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla later in the evening.
According to sources, the ambassador is expected to meet Chief Minister Khemchand at around 5.15 pm, followed by a meeting with Governor Bhalla at around 5.45 pm.
Gor is currently staying at the Classic Grande in Chingmeirong, near Imphal, sources said.
As part of his visit, the US ambassador is also expected to spend the night at Sendra, near Loktak Lake in Moirang.
The visit is being conducted amid tight security arrangements, with media access restricted at the scheduled engagements.
