An Assam Rifles convoy allegedly forced its way through barricades, set by villagers at Talui in Ukhrul district on Saturday.
Local sources claimed that two civilians sustained injuries during the incident. According to some local inputs, the Assam Rifles team was coming from Ukhrul Headquarters at around 1 pm when the incident took place. The convoy encountered the barricades, errected by residents at the entrance of Talui village and those barricades were reportedly set up by the villagers to regulate public movement amid the ongoing tension in the district.
As the convoy was advancing the area, multiple rounds of gunfire were heard. The sounds of gunfire triggered panic among the residents and created a volatile situation in and around the village of Talui.The scene was said to be highly chaotic, with civilians scrambling for safety, sources said.
Further sources indicated that a similar confrontation occurred near the village of Hoomi, where villagers attempted to stop the same convoy. A new sound of gun-fire was heard during the standoff, intensifying fear among the residents. An unconfirmed report stated that those injured include a man from Hoomi village and a woman from Talui.
Both were reportedly rushed to the Ukhrul District Hospital for medical treatment.
