CSOs Accuse Centre Of Backing Soo Militants

The All Manipur United Clubs’ Organisation (AMUCO) and other allied civil society organisations yesterday, launched a strong attack against the Central Government, alleging direct complicity in the violence that has engulfed the State of Manipur since May 3, 2023.
The organisations accused the Government of India of supporting armed militants operating under the Suspension of Operations (SoO) arrangement. Addressing a press conference at the AMUCO Head Office at Kwakeithel in Imphal west district, AMUCO president Sanjoy Sorokhaibam alleged that militants sheltered under the SoO pact, were being trained and provided logistical support by Indian security forces to attack indigenous communities in Manipur.
Sanjoy Sorokhaibam claimed that fresh attacks carried out in Kamjong district on May 7, were vivid proof that armed groups continued to operate with impunity despite repeated appeals by various civil society organisations to protect civilians and dismantle militant networks. The organisations re-affirmed their resolve to continue democratic agitations until what they termed as “justice and protection for the indigenous population” is endured.
The other CSOs attended at the press conference were All Manipur Women’s Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA), Committe on Human Rights (COHR), Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF), and Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur.
