Four Naga Civilians Killed in Ambush in Manipur’s Kangpokpi, One Missing

Fresh tension gripped Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Thursday after armed assailants allegedly ambushed a group of Naga civilians travelling along the IT Road, killing at least four people, injuring one and leaving another missing, sources said.

The incident reportedly took place around 8:30 am in the area between Makui Ashang and Thanamba Naga, a stretch regarded as an important route for Naga communities living along the IT Road.

According to sources, the civilians came under attack by armed miscreants in what was described as an ambush. Four members of the Naga community were reportedly killed, while another person suffered injuries. One more individual was said to be unaccounted for after the attack.

The incident has heightened tensions in Kangpokpi, which has remained vulnerable to sporadic violence since ethnic clashes erupted across Manipur in May 2023.

Police had not officially confirmed the incident at the time of reporting. The identities of those killed and injured, as well as details about the circumstances leading to the attack, are yet to be established.
