IDPs Demand Redressal Of Grievances

Thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from different relief camps in Churachandpur district gathered and staged a sit -in-protest yesterday at the Wall of Remembrance in Tuibong.
Dr.R.Sanga and Dr. Vumkhoneh Haokip spoke and discussed the steps taken by the Joint Internally Displaced Persons (JIDP).The Convenor of the Joint Philanthropic Organisation, Mr.Lianmuanthang Valte and his colleagues also participated in the event.
Participants displayed placards with written slogans like, “Aid is a right, not a favor,” “No segregation of camp and non-camp, for relief assistance,” “Give equal treatment to all IDPs,” and “Hear our cry, don’t let us die.”
Dr.R.Sanga and Dr. Vumkhoneh Haokip said that the protest focused on the survival of all IDPs, equitable compensation, and disparities in the Rehabilitation programme.During the event that began at 11.30 am and concluded at 2.00pm, the speakers pointed out that individuals in the Valley received handsome amount of compensation, while many individuals in the hills, who are of the similar situation, did not benefit similar assistance. They also noted that there are about 33,000 IDPs in Churachandpur district and nearly 18,000 non-relief camp residents are also facing the same difficulties, by sheltering at residences of friends and relatives.
About 15,000 residents from relief camps have been segregated, with only a few from the relief camps receiving assistance.They said that the JIDP has submitted a memorandum in this regard, to the Union Home Minister through the District Commissioner of Churachandpur,Mr.Darun Kumar. The four-page memorandum outlines their concerns and requests for immediate attention and support.
