The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has urged the Government of India and the Manipur Government to take immediate steps to address what it described as growing administrative, humanitarian and security challenges faced by the Kuki-Zo community across the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the KZC highlighted shortages of Manipur Civil Service (MCS) and Manipur Police Service (MPS) officers, as well as medical personnel in Tengnoupal district, and called for their immediate deployment. The council also expressed concern over shortages of food, medicines and essential commodities in several Kuki-Zo inhabited areas, alleging that blockades and restrictions had disrupted supplies.
The KZC claimed that Kuki-Zo residents in parts of Kangpokpi, Noney, Tamenglong and Kamjong districts have been facing severe hardships due to restrictions on movement and economic embargoes. It urged the government to ensure unhindered movement of essential goods and restore normalcy.
Among its other demands, the council called for the establishment of a Sub-Divisional Office and a Tribal Development Block in the Kana area of Chandel district, along with the immediate setting up of a cold-storage facility at Kangpokpi District Hospital.
The organisation also expressed concern over what it described as disproportionate investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Kuki-Zo areas and urged investigative agencies to function impartially and without discrimination.
The KZC further raised concerns over the security situation, alleging continued attacks on Kuki-Zo people and demanding accountability for those responsible. It also called for the reimposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, claiming that the present state government had failed to provide adequate security and confidence to the Kuki-Zo community.
The council demanded that the Centre provide a clear update on the status of the Kuki-Zo political demand and take concrete steps toward an acceptable political settlement.
Setting October 10, 2026, as a deadline, the KZC warned that it would launch a full-scale agitation if its concerns were not addressed satisfactorily by then. The organisation said continued insecurity, administrative neglect and delays in addressing political issues could not be allowed to continue indefinitely.
