KYKL cadre arrested in Imphal East after intelligence-based operation

Security forces have arrested an active member of the banned outfit Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) during an operation in Manipur’s Imphal East district, officials said on Tuesday. The arrest was made on May 4 as part of an ongoing investigation registered at Singjamei Police Station. The individual has been identified as Maibam Romio Singh (52), also known as Ronald, a resident of Singjamei Wangma Kshetri Leikai Mongkhang Lambi.

According to officials, the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance. Security personnel reached the suspect’s residence and apprehended him without any reported resistance. Authorities said the operation was conducted in a planned manner to maintain law and order in the area. During the search, security forces recovered one mobile phone and an Aadhaar card from his possession. The seized items are expected to help investigators gather more details about his activities and possible links. Officials said the arrest is part of continued efforts by security agencies to monitor and control the activities of banned outfits in the state. They added that such operations are being carried out regularly to prevent any disruption to peace and public order.

The arrested individual is currently under investigation, and further details are being verified. Police sources said more information may emerge as questioning continues. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of further action in connection with the case. Security has been kept under close watch in the area as part of routine precautionary measures.
