Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) has asked the Manipur government to take urgent and firm steps to restore peace in the state. The organisation said that inclusive dialogue, strict enforcement of law, and joint action against anti-peace elements cannot be compromised if normalcy is to return. In a memorandum submitted on the occasion of the 3rd Manipur Peace Day to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand, TIM stressed the need for a structured dialogue process involving all 36 recognised communities of the state. It questioned why the government has not yet created a platform for direct interaction among communities and said that people-to-people engagement is necessary to rebuild trust and reduce tensions between different groups. The organisation said that restoring peace will require not just talks, but also clear and consistent action on the ground.
It stated that anti-peace forces must be identified and dealt with firmly through a joint effort between the government and communities that support peace. According to TIM, there should be no space for elements that disturb coexistence or threaten the unity of the state. TIM also placed a five-point roadmap before the government. This includes proper identification of all communities, recognition of their legitimate representatives, starting an inclusive dialogue process, ensuring equal application of law across all regions, and allowing safe and free movement of citizens without restrictions. Raising concern over the current situation, TIM pointed to what it described as selective engagement by authorities and continued instability in several areas. It also highlighted restrictions on civilian movement and said these issues are adding to a growing trust deficit between the people and the government. The organisation stressed that neutrality and fairness must be clearly visible in government actions in both hill and valley regions.
Referring to the Chief Minister’s earlier statement that dialogue is the only solution, TIM said such dialogue must be open, transparent, and include every community without bias. It added that the situation in Manipur has reached a critical stage and requires a clear and firm stand in favour of peace and unity. TIM also thanked Thadou communities and churches across the world for observing Manipur Peace Day, calling it a sign of collective commitment towards peace.
