The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated enforcement action against Bengaluru-based British Life Sciences Pvt Ltd over violations involving infant food products. During an inspection conducted as part of an enforcement drive, officials found a significant quantity of misbranded infant food products at the company’s premises and seized the stock under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Legal proceedings have also been initiated against the food business operator, given the potential health risks posed by non-compliant products to infants and young children. FSSAI said 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food were ordered to be destroyed in accordance with court directions, and the stock was subsequently disposed of safely to prevent its reuse, diversion or re-entry into the food supply chain. British Life Sciences, part of the British Biologicals group, manufactures and markets nutrition products for mothers and children, including infant formulas under brands such as MMS, MMS Gold, Nascent and Optilait, as well as specialised formulas for low-birth-weight and premature babies. The company also offers baby cereals, children’s nutritional products and supplements for pregnancy and lactation.
