Taking part in a Partition Horrors Remembrance Day event, Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh on Friday said the occasion “also reminded us of the pain of displacement and the anguish of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur”.
“We solemnly remembered the victims and survivors of the Partition of 1947, honouring their immense loss and suffering. The occasion also reminded us of the pain of displacement and the anguish of IDPs in Manipur,” he said in his address at the event in Imphal.
He appealed to the people of the state to promote peaceful and harmonious coexistence, saying the pain caused by any crisis is the same for everyone.
Singh said the Partition of 1947 resulted in the loss of countless lives and widespread destruction of property.
He said those who survived the tragedy and reached India rebuilt their lives, adding that the day serves as a reminder to look forward rather than dwell on the past.
The programme concluded with a solemn candle-lighting ceremony, reaffirming shared commitment to peace, harmony and humanity.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, First Lady Jyoti Bhalla, and other dignitaries attended the programme.
