Manipur man killed in hunting mishap

A 60-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by his hunting companion, who reportedly mistook him for a wild animal, in Manipur’s Churachandpur district on Monday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Ginkhansuan Guite. The incident occurred in the Mualnuam area, where he had gone hunting along with another man, who has been identified as the accused in the case.
The victim, along with the accused hunter, had gone together for hunting at Kawltung area within the village jurisdiction of Mualnuam.
During the course of the hunt, the two reportedly separated and moved in different directions inside the forest. After some time, the accused allegedly spotted movement in the wilderness and mistook Guite for a wild animal before opening fire.
Guite sustained fatal gunshot injuries and died at the spot, officials said.
The accused later informed villagers about the incident, following which local residents went to the area and retrieved the body..
