An Assam Rifles patrol team came under attack by unidentified armed individuals near the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district early Sunday, leaving some security personnel injured, according to police sources. The incident occurred around 4 am as the patrol was moving through the rugged area between Yangoupokpi and Charingphei villages. Officials said the attackers triggered an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting the moving patrol, followed by gunfire. The security personnel took tactical positions and retaliated, while the attackers reportedly used dense vegetation and difficult terrain to escape. The injured personnel received immediate medical assistance before being evacuated to a military medical facility for further treatment. Following the attack, additional security personnel were deployed in the border area and a large-scale search and cordon operation was launched to locate those responsible. Authorities have not yet identified the attackers or established their affiliation with any militant or insurgent group. The incident has raised fresh concerns over security along Manipur’s international border, where challenging terrain and possible cross-border movement continue to complicate patrol and counter-insurgency operations.
