Manipur Police arrest militant cadre, two extortion suspects; large arms cache seized

Manipur Police and security forces have arrested an alleged cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front/People’s Liberation Army (RPF/PLA) and two suspected extortionists in separate operations, while a major joint counter-insurgency operation has led to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition and military equipment from vulnerable areas of the state.According to police, an active RPF/PLA cadre was arrested on June 22 during an operation conducted near the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Khumanlampak in Imphal West district. The arrested individual was identified as Oinam Dhanaraj Singh, also known as Abung, a 29-year-old resident of Leirongthel Pitra in Yairipok, Thoubal district.Security personnel seized a Honda Activa scooter from his possession during the operation. Further investigation is underway to ascertain his alleged involvement in militant activities.

In another operation conducted on June 21, security forces arrested two individuals allegedly linked to extortion activities associated with the KCP (MFL) group from Thoubal Bazar under Thoubal Police Station.The two arrested persons were identified as Abujam Sumit Singh, alias Tangbi, aged 20, currently residing at Pheidinga in Imphal West district, and Makuchung Gangmei, aged 23, a resident of Khoupum Gahtao in Noney district. Officials said 48 donation cards were recovered from their possession during the operation.Meanwhile, a large-scale joint operation involving Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Rapid Action Force (RAF), the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) and the Indian Army resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of arms and ammunition from several locations in Kangpokpi district. The operation, launched on June 20 based on specific intelligence inputs, covered the areas of Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Munlui, Molhoi, P. Moulding, Leilon Khunou and adjoining regions. Security forces reportedly came under fire from suspected militants, leading to an exchange of gunfire before extensive search operations were carried out over the following two days.

Among the weapons recovered were two AK-47 assault rifles, one M4 Carbine, two Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), one SKS rifle, an improvised sniper .303 rifle, 17 single and double-barrel guns and 11 Single Barrel Loading (SBL) rifles. Authorities also recovered assorted ammunition, communication devices and other war-like stores. Security agencies described the operation as a significant step in ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks and curb extortion-related activities. Officials said search operations and area domination exercises will continue in sensitive and vulnerable areas to strengthen security and maintain law and order across the state.
