In a major security operation, Manipur Police recovered a significant cache of illegal arms and ammunition during targeted searches in the Imphal West district. The operation, conducted along the Sagaishabi Road (Konchak Yangbi Road), underscores growing concerns about the proliferation of sophisticated weaponry in the region.
The seized arsenal includes:
A modified .303 rifle equipped with sniper scope capabilities
Two 9mm pistols with magazines
One carbine with magazine
Three single-barrel guns
Twelve rounds of 9mm ammunition
Two single-barrel ammunition rounds
Four hand grenades
One smoke grenade
One Baofeng wireless communication set
The discovery highlights the increasing sophistication of illegal arms, raising alarms over potential security threats. Law enforcement officials are now investigating the origins of the weapons and their possible links to local insurgent groups.
“This operation is part of our sustained efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and ensure the safety of residents in both hill and valley districts,” said a senior police official.
