Seven arrested for blast outside BJP MLA’s house in Manipur

Manipur police arrested seven members of PRE-PAK (Pro), a banned militant outfit, for their alleged involvement in an explosion at the residence of a BJP MLA in Imphal West district in August and the recruitment of new members.
“Based on reliable information, commando teams of Imphal West conducted search operation at different places and arrested seven cadres of PRE-PAK (Pro) who are involved in recruitment of new members and the bomb blast incident at the residence of MLA of Konthoujam Assembly Constituency in August 2026,” a statement issued by Manipur police said.
However, there was no casualty in the bomb blast at the house of the MLA and state government spokesperson, Sapam Ranjan Singh, at Konthoujam Mayai Leikai in Imphal West.
The arrests were made following raids by security forces at different places on Sunday, they said. Those nabbed have been identified as Usham Rakesh Singh, A Jet Meitei, Naorem Lanthoiba Singh, Ayekpam Stephen Meitei and a juvenile.
Besides, two women, Yumnam Athoibi Chanu (19) and R K Dayapati Devi, were also arrested for alleged involvement in the bomb blast at the residence of the MLA.
A juvenile was also rescued from being recruited by the outfit, a police official said, adding that one Honda Activa 6G scooter bearing registration number MN01AJ 4957 was also seized.
“The arrested persons and the seized article have been handed over to Lamphel Police Station for further necessary legal action,” he said.
