Security forces used tear gas to disperse protesters in Kakching after tensions escalated during a demonstration demanding justice for victims of the Tronglaobi incident. The protest took place at Kakching Bazar, where a large number of people gathered and raised slogans over the April 7 attack in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai area of Moirang. The situation turned tense when demonstrators reportedly refused to disperse, prompting security personnel to take action to control the crowd.
Officials said tear gas shells were used to bring the situation under control and prevent further escalation. There were no immediate reports of serious injuries during the dispersal, though tension remained in the area for some time.
The protest was triggered by a tragic incident earlier this month, when suspected militants hurled a bomb at a residential house in Tronglaobi Awang Leikai. The attack killed two children on the spot and left their mother injured, leading to widespread anger among local residents.
