Thadou Inpi,Manipur has strongly condemned and expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence between Kuki and Naga communities in Manipur during the recent few months.
The escalating violence continues to threaten lives, disrupt communities, and undermine peace in the north-eastern State of Manipur, stated a statement issued by the Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM).
The TIM,in its statement, said it was particularly disheartened by the potential spread and further escalation of violence, as well as the growing risk faced by the Thadou Community. Due to frequent misidentification and geographic proximity to conflict zones, Thadou people are increasingly vulnerable and often becoming unintended victims. The prevailing situation has placed the Thadou Community in a precarious position, caught between warring groups without recognition of its distinct identity.
The situation has deteriorated further, with reports of retaliatory attacks, loss of lives, displacement of numerous villagers and heightened fear and tension across the region. The situation of violence has increased specially after the recent incident of killing of two innocent commuters belonging to Tangkhul Naga community.
TIM appealed to both warring sides to refrain from targeting or involving the Thadou Community in the ensuing conflict. The TIM also condemned the continued failure of the government to arrest perpetrators of recent killing incidents. “Manipur’s future depends on the collective will of its people to reject violence and uphold unity, dignity, and co-existence,” the statement noted.
