Three insurgent cadres arrested, arms cache recovered in Manipur operations

Manipur Police and security forces have arrested three alleged insurgent cadres in separate operations across the state and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Thoubal district as part of an ongoing investigation into militant activities.According to officials, one of the arrested individuals, identified as Yumnam Thoiba Meitei (57), an alleged extortionist linked to SOREPA, was apprehended on June 22 from the Pravabati College relief camp in Mayang Imphal, where he had been residing. Meitei is a resident of Moreh Bazar Ward No. 8 in Tengnoupal district.

In another operation conducted on June 23, security forces arrested Kshetrimayum Frenston Singh, also known as Nanao and Ithat, who is alleged to be a self-styled Sergeant Major of PREPAK (Red Army). The 40-year-old was arrested from Top Khongnang Makhong area under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East district. A day earlier, security personnel also arrested another alleged SOREPA cadre, Yumnam Joyraj Singh alias Ibomcha (36), from Maibam Mamang Leikai under Mayang Imphal Police Station in Imphal West district. Meanwhile, security forces recovered a significant cache of weapons and ammunition from Chingdompok in Thoubal district on June 22. The operation was carried out following the arrest of alleged RPF/PLA cadre Nongthongbam Ingo alias Krishna alias Yuhenba (51) from Cuncolim in South Goa. The arrest was made by a Manipur Police team with assistance from Goa Police in connection with a case registered at Lilong Police Station.

During the recovery operation, security forces seized two INSAS rifles, nine INSAS magazines, two 9 mm pistols and 163 rounds of ammunition of various calibres. Officials said the arrests and recovery form part of continuing efforts to curb insurgent activities, dismantle militant networks and recover illegally held weapons across the state. Investigations are underway to establish possible links between the arrested individuals and to identify other persons involved in the network.
