Manipur Police have recovered a cache of arms and ammunition in Thoubal district following the arrest of an alleged member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) in Goa, officials said. The recovery was made on June 22 from the Chingdompok area of Thoubal district based on information obtained during the investigation after the arrest of Nongthongbam Ingo alias Krishna (51), who was apprehended by a Manipur Police team from Cuncolim in South Goa. According to a police statement, the operation led to the seizure of four firearms and a substantial quantity of ammunition. The recovered weapons included two INSAS rifles and two 9-mm pistols. Police also recovered nine INSAS magazines and 163 rounds of ammunition of different calibres.
Officials said the recovery was carried out after investigators developed leads during the questioning of the accused following his arrest in Goa. The information reportedly helped police trace the location where the arms and ammunition had been concealed. The operation is part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to crack down on insurgent activities and recover illegally possessed weapons in Manipur, where authorities have intensified operations against militant groups and illegal arms networks. Police said the latest recovery could provide important leads regarding the movement and storage of weapons linked to insurgent organisations. Investigators are now examining the origin of the seized arms and ammunition and whether they were intended for use in militant activities.
Authorities are also trying to identify other individuals who may have been involved in procuring, transporting or storing the weapons. Further investigation is underway, and police have not ruled out additional arrests as they continue to probe possible links between the recovered arms and wider militant networks operating in the region. Security agencies said efforts to trace illegal weapons and dismantle insurgent support networks would continue across the state.
