Government, UNC Hold Talks Over Manipur Economic Blockade A high-level meeting between the Manipur government and the United Naga Council (UNC) was held in Senapati to discuss the prevailing situation in the state and the ongoing economic blockade along national highways. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas, with nine MLAs, including Naga legislators, and nine UNC representatives led by president NG Lorho taking part. Government spokesperson MLA Thokchom Radheshyam described the first round of discussions as fruitful and cordial, calling it an “ice-breaker” for further dialogue on outstanding issues. The talks focused on the UNC’s four-point charter of demands and possible measures to restore peace and address concerns in the state. The government also appealed to the Naga apex body to withdraw the ongoing economic blockade. However, UNC president NG Lorho said the discussions centred on finding a way forward for peace and addressing the council’s demands. Further rounds of talks are expected as both sides seek to resolve the issues and work towards restoring normalcy along the affected national highways.
